it is the motherboard that is replacing what was an intel PIII coppermine 800
mhz (it got spiked/burned by bad electrical connectors in plugboard)

after i tried to boot in "safe mode" and it worked. looks like it might be an
acpi 'problem' ?? i havent a clue what acpi is or how it could be a problem or
why it should lock up lik it was doing so.

i've sent a bit more detailed post to freebsd-questions and included the most
   recent ..

   /var/log/messages
   /var/run/dmesg.run

after i added the sound config stuff in teh boot.loader.local (thats how i like
to do it. now it still cannot 'setup' teh vga0: which i think is teh nvidia
card .. after i got it to get past teh initial lock up its been up (on freebsd
v7) all last night and now all day) .. seems to be working well

ps thx fro teh v7 heads up peter, ps any more thoughts on teh 1850r and v7 ???

i/m not casting aspersiones here but would liek to find out if this is a
freebsd or might it be a gigabyte/ or even amd issue ???

   regards thansk and sppreciations

   jonathan
