Thanks for the great description!  I admit that getting dirty
with ASM optimisation for my G4 is still on my "to do" list, and
I've never had a G5 to play with.  I'd never really looked past
the front-side/memory bus bandwidth differences, but I guess
there's a lot that can be done with what fits into cache these
days.
