its not large, either, and is just setting up teh environment

oops sorry, yes after i quit its ok, as expected..

i'm at a loss to explain this behaviour, esp that it seems to
be 'targeting' root ??

i use su to become root, after i type in teh passwd i get
dropped into a less session, then i exit and i get the the
fortune cookie and then comes teh "prompt"

as regards teh .tcshrc/.login they are almost as per the
original version that came off teh install cdrom. the onlu
difference in .tcshrc is teh addition of this line

source ~/.complete

and this file is as it comes from the package ?? as well, if i
remove the entry i still get teh same behaviour, i reverted all
teh changes to teh std .tcshrc and i reverted teh /etc/motd
file to teh original.

then i tried the root su again .. and still teh less
interception .. as well i tried su on several other v6.2 hosts
all are setup identical to teh one withthe less interception
but on these i su and i get straight into the root prompt .. no
delay ??? this behaviour started just after teh point in time i
edited the /etc/motd file ???

regards

jonathan
