Probably a badly-behaved install script or similar that arbitrarily
changed permissions on a parent directory. There are occasional
reports of people having /dev/null change permissions thanks to
badly designed programs that automatically "tighten" the permissions
on their output file (I think there's at least one port FORBIDDEN
due to such behaviour).
