just a sideways step ... i read a while ago (a bit before teh
christmas, just gone) where a conversation with fxp0 owner/user
and mr jack vogel intel nic guru was had on freebsd-stable i
think.

it was all about something that (sorta) looked like what you
are having happen, it boiled down to freebsd/intel fxp0
driver/fxp0 hardware getting relative knickers in knots over
hardware/software versions of polling .. as far as i could see.
sorry i don't feel like going 10 rounds with google to find
relevent places in freebsd-stable.

just a thought ..
