Unless you're doing something unusual the defaults should be sufficient
for any windowing environment. You haven't left any so-called "tuning"
parameters in sysctl.conf from 2.2.7 days I hope. With a 6.X environment
you should just install and it will work fine as a desktop with nothing
special.
