If the disks are not being used to boot anything, then it shouldn't  
matter what the BIOS does, in fact a lot of plug in disk controllers  
don't even initialize their drives until well after the BIOS probe.  
(Obviously those controllers can't be used to boot off).

Most of these controllers contain their own BIOS to probe and identify  
the disks attached to them, so you should not have any problems!
