Can't you just do things server-side using something like procmail?
It's difficult to tell without knowing a bit more about your setup.
I'm assuming your users have accounts on the FreeBSD server though they
don't necessarily shell in (you mentioned they are LookOut users, so
the accounts only exists for server authentication?).  If so, you have
greater control over things server side than expecting client-side rules
to be maintained.
