There was a change not so long back which affected the interpretation of
$HOME in /etc/crontab. If that's what you're using, you'll note there is
a HOME=/var/log in the top, but apparently this was broken until a year
ago (ie. between 6.2 and 6.3 releases were cut). Could that be your problem?
