I had a shell account associated with my Zeta (now Pacific
Internet) dial-up account, and I maintained it for years
after I stopped using a modem, just for the shell account. I
only cancelled it in the last couple of months or so. It was
quite useful, particularly for remote check-ups on network
connectivity and name service for my home system. I'm afraid
that I have no idea if the new management would sell you one,
though.

I've not found it to be such a terrible bother. Every so often
they drop off the net, but that hasn't happened for a while. On
the other hand, my cable IP address has not changed for longer
than I can remember, now.

Well, that's up to you, of course.

That's also up to you. These days my shell packets have to
elbow themselves past all of the spam that's landing on my
system.

I can't think of much reason for wanting shell access to
anywhere *other* than home: that's where all my "stuff" is.
That's ultimately why I dropped the Zeta account: it was costing
me by the month, and I'm never going to need dial-up again.

You mean you don't get your BSD by cvsup, and your linux by
git? :-)

Cheers,

Andrew
