1. ANNOUNCEMENT
I mentioned on irc a few months ago that I'd like to arrange a PGP key-
signing event to coincide with the next BUGS meeting. So, with our 1st
November meeting only a couple of weeks away, I'm writing to announce
the event and appoint myself as its co-ordinator. If you don't know
about key-signing parties, please see the following link or interrogate
your favourite search engine for variations on this theme:
http://www.cryptnet.net/fdp/crypto/keysigning_party/en/keysigning_party.html
2. KEYSERVER
I suggest that we use my keyserver for the event:
hkp://keys.riverwillow.net.au
No obligation, but it strikes me as being the easiest way to get all of
the participants' keys in the one place and facilitate participants
being able to send/recv each other's keys and see immediate updates,
without waiting for the 24+ hour synchronization churn through the
global keyserver network.
- If you don't want changes to your key to be propagated to the
global keyservers, please let me know.
- If you don't want your key on my keyserver (or any public server),
please let me know.
3. REQUIREMENTS
To participate in the key-signing, you will need to:
BEFORE THE MEETING
- Send me your public key so that I can compile a keyring from
which I can generate a list of participants' key charactersitics
to distribute to participants at the meeting. How you do this is
up to you but preferably, send it to my keyserver:
gpg --keyserver keys.riverwillow.net.au --send-key <key-ID>
- Record (e.g. print) your key's fingerprint, size, type and uid's
so that you can take it with you to the meeting. You will need
this to confirm to other participants your key's details on their
lists. The details you will need are provided by gnupg's
--fingerprint option:
gpg --fingerprint <key-ID>
ON THE MEETING DAY
- Remember to turn up to the meeting at Peter's place.
- Bring with you the record of details of your public key.
- Bring with you whatever means of identification you think will be
sufficient to satisfy other participants as to your identity,
particularly as it relates to the uid(s) on the key you want
signed; otherwise they might not sign your key.
4. REPLIES
Please send any replies relating to your key directly to me (off-list).
Thank you.
