MS Virtual PC has issues with *IX installs - well, actually, it has
issues with X.org / Xfree86. the install seems to proceed just fine, the
test of the x-server works fine, but on reboot... let's say, you need to
remember the root password and go and hand edit xorg.conf (or xf86's
config).
VPC "lies" to the installers somehow, and when you start "for real", my
experience is getting the X server going needs manual intervention. Oh,
the fix I've found is to tell the system to use the 'vesa' driver, not
(IIRC) the 's3'.
Very rarely have an issue with VirtualBox - I've had some, but fewer and
less drastic than VPC.
