sorry i forgot to add this infomration in my original post,
yes, it is all in teh original as packaged freebsd v5.4-release
kernel.

i also checked the rest of teh kernel config and its all there
all teh bits my hadrware needs.. this was teh very first thing
that i thought might be wrong ??

but i reasoned that if teh stuff was not in teh kernel then the
kernel would report that no device thingie was loaded/in teh
kernel--- well some sort of kernel error message not some
cryptic output complaining about wrong kind of output.

also i have been thinking as regads the output errro message if
teh expected 0x100 was concatenated with the actual 0x309 to
produce the as printed 0x100309 this looks like it is reporting
output several orders of magnitude than what it is looking for
?? is this a reasonable assumtion or have i missunderstood hpw
things are supposed to be working.

what i am trying to say i guess is what if teh error message would
say expected 0x100 but got 0x309 how would this change teh
complexion of teh error message ??

regard/appreciation

jonathan
