greetings all,

well last night ... this morning more like it, i went to bed
after going through all 6 rc.conf files on every live machine
here 4 of which are freebsd v6.2-release right off teh cdrom
(ummm out of teh box. sorta grin attempt, sort offf)

so here it is, this is what does work here on my hardware ..
this morning i have all of last nights crontab generated mail
maintenance reports .. just like it used to be in teh freebsd
v2.2.5 days

after adding/proding/fixing all teh networking entries and made sure
that all teh ' " ' were in place and all teh relevent (as i;ve
so far intimated are required, for at least mine runtime v6.2)

defaultrouter="203.7.226.1"
gateway_enable="NO" # as required for router environments
hostname="hostname.domainname.grr"
#
ifconfig_fxp0="inet ip.add.re.ss netmask 255.255.255.240"
ifconfig_lo0=" inet 127.0.0.1"	# this may or manot be needed
				#irrespetice of WHAT IS IN /etc/default/rc.conf
#
#ipv4_addrs_fxp0="ip.add.res.0/28"
#network_interfaces="fxp0"
network_interfaces="fxp0 lo0"
#network_interfaces="auto"	# this just does not work here on 6.2
#

and yes the defaults/rc.conf have all teh things needed to make
it work like magic, i have left those as installed.

aside, i have an 1850r that won't run/boot v6.anything, as such
i run freebsd v5.4 . and it works/has worked properly from
installation on teh original as installed /etc/defaults/rc.conf
and teh minor changes need to identify that particular pachine

this is teh sum total of teh last years worth of heartache and

again thanks guys ...

jonathan
