I admit I'm a little stumped as to why a generic install would *lose*
the loop back device..

Is there a device entry for lo0 in /dev/net/ ?

I don't fully understand how the devfs works, except that it
'magically' puts device entries for everything that is in the system,
since lo is in the kernel I can't see why it wouldn't put an entry..
You can mess with /etc/devfs.conf, but the default file is all
comments..

Are you running in a jail? *jokes* That's the only time I'v seen a
system without lo..
