Edwin,

i teh machine has just finished restarting and restarting x11
.. it does everything so slowly ... grrr

ok,
 ping localhost
ping: sendto: Can't assign requested address

 ping 127.0.0.1
ping: sendto: Can't assign requested address

 ping reality
64 bytes from 203.7.226.6: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.104 ms

 ping reality.caamora.com.au
64 bytes from 203.7.226.6: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.112 ms

 ping 203.7.226.6
64 bytes from 203.7.226.6: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.100 ms

and just for completness

 ping localhost.caamora.com.au
ping: sendto: Can't assign requested address

can't fool that ping deamon, its got more smarts than i seem to
be having at eh moment .

is there some sort of config file bury'd deep in teh
/usr/local/etc/ or some place like that that may have some sort
of an effect on this stuborn responce mechanism ??

it is oficial ihave now done everything that i can tink off and
the crew at orielly&acc's even think of mentioning in tcp/ip
network admin ed2 and of course you guys .. even dead chook
entrails are starting to look good about now .. starting to
make about as much sence

short of post teh pf.conf file (i'm reasonably sure its not got
much if any to do with whats going on here .. it was wrking
while pf was install (for a few months) then one day out of teh
blue it just stoped working and i guess localhost droped dead
too and teh nolonger working sendmail was a sympton of this
local netwrking being dead issue but every thing else is still
working as well as it always has .. even x11, ok its slow on
this i810 (with 2 mb) graphics endowed, 256 mb gase model ibm
netvista box.

most kind regards and much thanks/appreciations

jonathan
