greetings all,

after much hair resurfacing and antascid for teh exxessive
stomach issues i think (with the help of an itinerant wanderer,
much thanks rr) i've gotten a handle on my sendmail issues.

i've check and check .. i think i could replay th configfiles
in my sleep .. well that teh idea i guess

[hostname] /tmp/ot-build> ping localhost
PING localhost.caamora.com.au (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: No route to host
ping: sendto: No route to host
ping: sendto: No route to host
ping: sendto: No route to host
ping: sendto: No route to host
^C

same for "ping 127.0.0.1"

on teh other hand if i do a ping to the dns configured hostname
or its ip addr it all works a treat

[hostname] /tmp/ot-build> ping hostname
PING hostname.domain.com.au (rem.o.ved.6): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from rem.o.ved.6: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.190 ms
64 bytes from rem.o.ved.6: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.103 ms
64 bytes from rem.o.ved.6: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.118 ms
64 bytes from rem.o.ved.6: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.095 ms
64 bytes from rem.o.ved.6: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=0.117 ms
64 bytes from rem.o.ved.6: icmp_seq=5 ttl=64 time=0.117 ms
^C

to quote a man more veresd that i .. "if sendmail cannot talk
to itself its not going to be able to send mail, is it ??" the
obvious answer is no ??

i have tried to restart teh network (the rc.d method) i thin
"/etc/rc.d/netif restart" as well as the more forcefully
substantive "ctrl alt delete" yet still no localhost mode.

i've checked all teh relevent files in /etc/ and i checked teh
/var/log/maillog file too and it says 'network is unreachable'
also the mail clientqueue directorey has over 2100 files in
over 87mb of data .. well not any more, as meadia is geting
short enough to start geting "refer tuning(7)" messages ina and
amongst this quagmore of crontab maintenance reports and
suchlike local stuff trying to make it to the mx host .. oh
well the the backingup again will start tonight i supppse,
untill i can get teh network to be again reachable .. somehow??

well i suppose i need to get teh networking to be again
reachable, somehow .. the main issue is that i don not know
what is broken some suggestions would be most helpfull, please.

most kind regards and much appreciations

jonathan
