As people have already said, it's more the chip-set on the motherboard
than the cpu which gives you grief. But in my experience the Intel
chips are more stable, I'v had a few AMD cpus die for no apparent
reason.. Personally I feel that currently the Intel Xeon chips offer
the best performance, that may change but I'v had a lot of faith
restored in Intel over the past few years..
You want to look very carefully at the motherboard though, I would
avoid any VIA chip-set boards personally as I'v always had issues with
them.
FYI, my next system will be a dual quad core Xeon =p
