I seem to be the only one posting >.<
Anyway..
I'v noticed that sendmail is listening on port 587, services says this
is 'submission', however connecting to it provides the exact same
function as port 25 as far as I can tell.. What is this about? I'v
seen some mail servers offer SSL on port 587...
So firstly what is actually required to use SSL? It seems sendmail was
compiled with SSL by buildworld but looking at the configuration docs
it has all this stuff about certificates, which I don't have.. I don't
want to provide authentication, just encryption for people sending via
the server, since I was planning to use SMTP Auth to allow relaying or
not.
So what do I actually NEED to provide encryption via SSL?
Also SMTP Auth isn't built into sendmail by default? What is the best
way to configure this? I don't really think I want PAM integration so
I would be happy with a separate database..
