Any new laptop will come with VISTA.  I understand the more expensive
versions of VISTA can be upgraded to XP at no charge.

3GB is a lot for a laptop and I've yet to see any modern laptop
run FreeBSD "flawlessly" - most have closed chips and the OSS
drivers have restricted functionality if they exist at all.
