greetings
next step .. as regards this whole 'collisions' question.
i have managed to get all teh nic's set to full-duplex and
talking to the nortel switch .. so far so good thanks guys,
edwin, andrew and teh rest of teh namless throng that i hope to
catchup with at teh next bugs day out.
now, how would i go about finding out what teh bad incoming
packets are .. the collisions have stoped as far as i can tell,
well teh numbers are not going up as at this stage.
Network interface status:
Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs Coll
de0 1500 <Link#1> 00:00:e8:00:00:00 5051181 59 5193612 4 179368
it is not a huge increas, a few each day, when compared to teh
daily packet toll (some 300k).
without resorting to something like tcpdump and then diging
through the file, manually or with some tools like say
ethereal, fro instance .. it still can be a (long) hard process.
i suppose this could be called 'forensic analysis' ??
i haven't bothered with google as i don't have a clue jow to
even beging a search on this (kind of a) topic.
sugestions pointers war stories much appreciated.
most kind regards
jonathan
