[BUGS] scripting: moving/renaming log files

greetings all,

as the subject suggests, i'd like to scp (and rename the files
to name+date of creation into another directory and/or
another:/directory/tree/some/where that would have to be
created on teh fly.

i have tried to break this up, also i have tried to stick to
sh(8) but looked at csh(8) bash(8) and a peek at rsh(8)

appreciate some pointers some suggestions, the rename to current
date is easy bit (even i can do that .. grin). all the stuff i
have looked at so far suggests digging into system programming.

to those who will say .. yes i looked at google and as usual it
was not very forthcoming, even if i could get past the new
'captcha' filtering my proxy'd address now seems to provoke.
