[BUGS] thoughts about usb flash drive usage

greetings all, christmas and all that ..

i have managed a couple of toshiba 1 and 4 gb flash drives (two
or three of each) and i was wondering are these thingies
stable, robust, reliable enough to be able to be used as a
("THE") swap partition for a desktop machine ?

i am looking at expanding a machines 'memory' footprint by a
decent whack 2gb/4gb by adding a swap space on one of these
devices .. woud that be a good/bad idea

while on this train of thought, would one of these devices be
reliable/stable enough to serve as teh root partition for a
desktop machine or even a home user type router/gateway type
server'ish machine.

the machine i'm looking at 'upgrading' has 256 mb dram and a
couple of usb ports on teh front .. upgrading its memory is a
non starter, so i though off adding a flash drive and setting
up a swap space ?

thank you all for your help and support over this last (most trying of)
year

kind regards and best wishes

jonathan
