greetings,

i have gotten myself somewhat disoreinted and nw that i have
moeved some of teh relevent files my original question becomes
.. as bellow

sorry ...

-----Forwarded message from jonathan michaels <jlm at caamora.com.au>-----

i have been using these for about 3 or 4 months now and today i
cannot do an

# scp -r /dir/ect/ory hostid:/dir/ect/ory-new-name

i tried to do this as root, first by sudo than when that failed
i tried as root via "su - root" cannot accuse me of not being
single mindedly persistant, <grin>

Dec 17 12:32:46 host1-s sshd[43471]: error: PAM: authentication error for root from host2.caamora.com.au

i just tried as std my uid, after i moved (as best as i can recal
the relevent files) from /usr/ports/distfiles into a directory
off my home tree .. this worked as expected .. so why the pam
erroes if i try as root, this disn't happen in ssh v1/v1.5 i
think, is it a simple matter of changing then ssh config file
is that a good idea ???

i have looked at teh relevent logs on both machines and the
above is all thats given .. i'd apreciate som insight please ..

so how best to copy files from one tree to anohter tree on
different machine/network using scp, esp if its in teh "root"
privalged part of teh system tree .. say like '/usr/ports' ??

much kind regards

jonathan
