greetings,

i have two machines, both with freebsd one v5.4-release and the
other with v6.1-release.

i have been using these for about 3 or 4 months now and today i
cannot do an

# scp -r /dir/ect/ory hostid:/dir/ect/ory-new-name

i am trying to move a ports tree from one machine to another
for storage/something like that while teh old machine is taken
down and refurbished .. i don't want to loose the stuff i
explicity got that is not on teh cdrom version of freebsd i am
using.

today i started gatting pam errors saing

Dec 17 12:32:46 host1-s sshd[43471]: error: PAM: authentication error for root from host2.caamora.com.au

it matters not if i swap machines and try to get at teh
relevent directory tree from teh other machine .. i do not
understand what has happened, what i am doing wrong .. ihave no
recollection of it failing like this in teh last 3 months and
i havent had this problem with anu of teh other hosts, well as
few from teh still with freebsd v2.2.5-release, but if i pick
teh target carefully its not a problem.

i have looked at teh relevent logs on both machines and the
above is all thats given .. i'd apreciate som insight please ..

much kind regards

jonathan
